So... We have a composer born between 1882 and 1898, born in the Eastern Hemisphere, in an EU country, and who did not live to the age of 80 or eat squid :). Not Vaughn-Williams or Sibelius. Not Russian (is Russia an EU country????). [b]Bela Bartok[/b}

The composition was written between November 1915 and 1959. Contains parts for strings and woodwinds, no vocals, the trumpet is not a featured instrument.

Correction: Composer born between 1877 and 1898

The composition was written between 1959 and August, 1974. Contains parts for strings and woodwinds, no vocals, the trumpet is not a featured instrument.

Correction: Composition written before 1959 discovery of Neutrino...

This is what I found in Wikipedia:

The first Test match between England and Australia had been played in 1877, but the Ashes legend dates back only to their ninth Test match, played in 1882.

Sorry about the neutrino, I read that as after: I'll correct my post.

Did not find the info on the Ashes matches at Wikipedia....

The first Ashes series was in 1882, not '77. And the neutrino was discovered in '56, '59. Sorry for the mess, guys. :(

Navneeth....
No problem..... This was a great way to learn some new stuff!

We only have to adjust the answer to the Ashes question as Bartok (we all know who the composer is now.... was born in 1881.

The work was written before the 1956 discovery of Neutrino....

TM
