You've no measure of the bounds of my morality. Quote:

You've no measure of the bounds of my morality. I'm talking legal issues here.

You are correct, I cannot measure the bounds of your morality. Next point: The question on the table is a debate of where and when and how and if the law should be changed. An argument of the existing law does not contribute to that.

the State

I hope by this you mean the people of the state, however the consistent use of capitalization, makes it appear that the State Govt should make this decision. (Usually, capitalization of the State indicates the countries govt, or as we call it, the Fed Govt. However, you have made your point that you mean the subdivided 50-nifty gov'ts.) Im not too happy with the thought of state governments making these decisions without extensive input of state residents in both developing the guidelines and then voting on the final wording and implementation.

I have no idea why you thought I care what the marital status of your wife was when your step-son was born. Its got nothing to do with babies, or being a mom.

I refer to the State as the governmental entity as that is who is charged with creating laws that deal with the taking of human life - murder, capital punishment, manslaughter, etc. At this point in the discussion, all that I can really propose is that the decision be removed from the Federal level and handed to the States, where I believe it belongs. If and when that happens, a discussion of what, specifically, the States should do with it would be warranted. I have stated my position on what I think my State should do, for which I have been roundly criticized.

The involvment of the people in the decision making process would be determined by the individual State constitutions. The more democratic the state, the more popular involvement there would likely be. The matter may be set by popular referendum, executive decreek, legislative action, or judicial fiat, depending on the laws of the States and how those laws are wielded. I am not familiar with the constitutions of all fifty States, I only know that the Constitution mandates that they will be a republican form of government.

The purpose of this discussion was originally whether or not it should be debated - with which I agreed. We then set about doing just that.

I posted about my wife's marital status because my latest posts on this thread dealt with her situation. Your post implied that I thought only unwed mothers would be at issue, and that argument seemed to be pre-empted by the discussion of my wife's situation. I had forgotten using the example of the unwed mother, which I posted about just prior to your latest.

It seems the serial obfuscator (me) strikes again.
