That's actually one of the few operas I've actually seen. Not live, mind you, I saw it on television many moons ago.

It was okay, I guess. But I liked the book better.

I don't recall anything particularly memorable about the opera, but it has been many moons since I saw it. There's no au Fond du Temple Saint, Je Croix, Habenera, Nessun Dorma, or even Elephants, Yeah that really sticks in my mind from it.

I seem to recall that it had a fair amount of spoken dialogue, I think I mentioned it in the 'operetta' thread.

There are several good tunes in this opera, Shap, and when O.T. posts the answer, I'll name some. Mind you, O.T. will probably do it for me. I'm sure he knows them.

I'm sure there are. It was able to hold my interest all the way through the opera. Of course, I had read the book, so I was able to follow it, which helps. It runs about two and a half hours, I see by doing a search. The 'highlights' CD runs a little over an hour. I didn't click on any of the tracks to see if I remember any of them, but none of the titles ring a bell. (Not that that should be surprising, I can't recall the real title to Elephants, Yeah either.

I just don't recall anything that stuck in my mind long after seeing it. I do remember that the soprano playing the wife was pretty and had a beautiful voice!
